“I don’t think “art for art’s sake” is a correct statement, because I believe that every work of art is a means to understand different realities, and not only an ability performance”, says Anna Maria Di Ciommo on her website. ( www.diciodesign.com )

The Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland is pleased to be the co-coordinator for the forthcoming Artistic Exhibition, “White” a compilation of ten designer collections from the Italian region of Lombardy focusing on ceramic, interiors and glass, bearing the trademark of high-end Italian-made quality and originality proposed through a narrative journey into a “white” image.

Laboratorio NIBE - ItalyThe event is a joint project organized by the regional government of Lombardy, Promos, the Special Agency of the Milan Chamber of Commerce and the various industry associations which represent quality Italian designer furniture and furnishings of which Lombardy takes pride of place in terms of excellence, and has the patronage of the Italian Consulate for Queensland and Northern Territory. Local Brisbane gallery Artisan is also a partner in the exhibition and will be featuring collections from five Australian artists – a moment of synthesis and comparison between two different worlds, which will unite trade and culture and create the humus for the beginning of a productive collaboration between people who through their hard work and sweat, and the safeguarding of their traditions, have created a pivot of their real character and of their actual being!

All items featured in the collection “White” have been donated by the Italian artists and will be sold off at the end of the exhibition by silent auction with the proceeds going to a foundation set up by Brisbane gallery Artisan in an effort to send one Australian artisan to the next edition of the “Salone del Mobile” - the most important furniture fair in Europe which will be held in Milan in 2011. CEO of Artisan, Chetana Andary is very excited about this opportunity as it will further enhance the presence of Australian art excellence in the international marketplace and strengthen the synergies that already exist between Italy and Australia.
